GroupBond — Privacy Policy

GroupBond ("the app", "we") is a private community-management app for families and organizations. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using GroupBond you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

• Account & profile: your name, email address, and (optionally) phone number, bio, profile photo, birthday and anniversary (month/day only).
• Group data: the group(s) you join, your role (admin, moderator, member), and approval status.
• Content you create: chat messages, shared photos and videos, celebrations, "good things" posts, and family-tree / org-chart entries.
• Usage & device: online/last-seen status and a push-notification token to deliver alerts. We do not collect precise location.
• Advertising identifiers: to show ads, our advertising partner (Google) may collect a device advertising ID and related information — see the "Advertising" section below.

2. How we use it

• To provide the core service — group membership, chat, hierarchy, celebrations, and notifications.
• To show your profile and content to other approved members of your group.
• To send push notifications about activity in your group.

3. Permissions

• Camera / Photos & Videos: only to let you pick or capture images and videos you choose to share or set as your photo.
• Notifications: to alert you about group activity.
• Internet / Network state: to sync your data and show offline status.

Permissions are used only for the features above and only when you use them.

4. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Messaging) and Supabase (which powers notifications and account-recovery emails). Both are reputable cloud providers. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections.

5. Sharing

Your profile and content are visible only to approved members of your own group. We do not sell your personal data or share it with advertisers. We share data only with the infrastructure providers above to operate the service, or where required by law.

6. Advertising

GroupBond displays ads to keep the app free. Ads are provided by Google — Google AdMob in the Android app and Google AdSense in the web app.

• To serve ads, Google and its partners may collect and use certain data, such as a device advertising identifier, IP address, general (non-precise) location, and app/usage information, and may use cookies or similar technologies.
• This may be used to show ads and, where permitted, personalized (interest-based) ads, and to measure ad performance. We do not share your name, email, chat, photos, or group content with advertisers.
• How Google uses this data is described in Google's Privacy & Terms. You can review or opt out of personalized ads at Google Ads Settings. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.

7. Data retention & deletion

• Leave a group ("Exit Group"): permanently deletes your membership and details from that group.
• Admin "Delete Group": permanently deletes the entire group and all its content.
• Older shared media may be automatically removed to manage storage; profile photos and family-tree photos are retained.

8. Children

GroupBond is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. A group is managed by its admin, who is responsible for who they invite.

9. Security

Access requires authentication, and group content is restricted to authenticated members. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we use industry standard safeguards.

10. Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date will change accordingly.
